Washington Community School District and Washington Police Department

The incident that caused school to be canceled has been investigated by local law enforcement and district officials. The investigation is ongoing, the allegations of a threat have been deemed, by law enforcement, to be non-credible. Those that initiated false and misleading social media posts may face further discipline and/or legal consequences.There has been no connection found between this incident and what is happening in other places throughout the state and nation. As a result, classes will resume Monday, October 9th at the normal times. All activities will be held as scheduled Friday and Saturday.

A reminder, should threats or other information come your way, via text, email or other social media, it is best not to respond or engage with those who send a threat. Please take a screenshot of the content and contact local law enforcement by phone at 319-653-2107, or if an emergency 9-1-1, or School District building officials.

It remains the top priority of the Washington Community School District to keep our students and staff in a safe learning environment.


Young Engineers Fill Lincoln Library for 4-H STEM Club PDF Print E-mail

4-H STEM Club filled every chair in the Lincoln Library afterschool October 3 for the first meeting to learn about Aerospace Engineering before designing their own parachutes. The 29 participants defined technology in a new way and started tested variables for their own parachute designs. They completed tests on canopy size, material and shape. This 4-H STEM Club will meet again October 10 and 17 to complete their parachutes, test them and improve them as engineers would.


Washington County Extension & 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar and Premier 1 Supplies to offer this 4-H STEM Club to any 3rd-5th grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math.


A community showcase is planned for October 17 at 4:30 p.m. to showcase what the students have learned and built in the “A Long Way Down” sessions. Any community member is welcome to come learn more from these students and see their parachutes in action.


The STEM Club for October and the Novembers sessions are already full, however, a February and March session will advertise after the first of the year.
